Ruaridh Stewart brings over 2 decades of international photojournalism and editing experience to ZUMA Press. As the News Director, Stewart oversees the work of a team of Photo Editors and is the chief point of contact for all incoming and outgoing images from ZUMA photographers, Newspapers and partners Agencies around the world. Stewart also works on zReportage.com and Doubletruck Magazine editing photo essays, which regularly win top awards for photography and editing from Pictures of Year International POYi and The Best of Photojournalism NPPA.

Prior to joining ZUMA, Stewart spent nine years living and working in Asia-Pacific. Based in Hong Kong, Stewart held a number key positions with national newspapers, most recently with Hong Kong’s largest and most outspoken Chinese newspaper, Apple Daily News, where he was an international photojournalist. Assignments took him all over the world, covering everything from deadly earthquakes in Taiwan to government collapse in Indonesia.

In 1999 Stewart was the recipient of two top honors in Asian photojournalism awarded by the Hong Kong Press Photographers Association: POY “Picture of the Year” and “Best News Picture” for his images of life in Hong Kong post handover after the United Kingdom relinquished the former colony back to China.

Prior to his travels in Asia, Stewart studied Photography and Media Studies back home in Edinburgh, Scotland. He is a member of the Los Angeles Press Photographers’ Association and the National Press Photographers Association, and remains an active news and feature photographer.
